Let your Resume work for you

There are numerous ways to approach your resume and create a document with you get you the interview and eventually the job you desire. It’s important to remember that your resume is just a tool to fetch you an interview and not the job. So, in case you have an extensive resume of about ten pages, shorten it into two pages. As it is your personal marketing vehicle you must try to keep it concise and attractive. There are myriad ways to write your resume, but this document should only represent you and your achievements.

Try to create a resume which can set you apart from others applying for a particular job. There are innumerable formats available on the internet or websites, but make sure you don’t just copy a standard template. Just ensure that your CV can be easily read and the content is impressive. It’s up to your discretion to include relevant information as you are the master of your resume, but put the right information and do not lie about your qualification or achievements. It can be very embarrassing if you are caught for putting wrong information or lying.

What to Include in Your Resume
Apart from your qualification and work experience, your resume should include your name, contact details, email address, and your phone numbers. By including some of your major achievements you can let the employers and recruiters know how you can contribute to the company if you are selected. If you have prior work experience you can emphasize on your achievements and the various tasks handled.

A concise career history is a must and ideally it should be presented in a reverse chronological order mentioning your most recent job or position first. Make sure you include your most recent employment history because no one is interested in what you have done decades ago.

What You Shouldn’t Include in Your Resume
While creating your resume be careful not to add any information which is negative about you and always highlight your positives. Do not include a list of references as you would be asked for that later after clearing an interview. Photographs on CVs are a big no-no unless you are applying for modeling or acting jobs because it's your skills, qualification and experience which would get you the interview not your looks.

You should also avoid mentioning your hobbies, pastimes or areas of interest. Regardless of which position you currently work on you should always avoid writing marital status, gender, and family details like how many children you have. Writing resume on the top of the document is not at all necessary as it would take up a lot of space and recruiters normally would know what document it is.

Avoiding Blunders
Make sure your resume doesn’t have spelling errors or typos. Not using a spellchecker on the computer may land you in huge embarrassment. Avoid using too many fonts and font sizes as they are major turn offs for readers. Employers are busy people, so your resume should grab their attention in seconds. Even if you have long career history you should keep your resume as short as possible and not more than two pages in length. Lastly, do not repeat your name throughout the resume and try and use bullet points as they would make your resume look good and easy to be read.
